A psychoactive concoction native to the jungles of South America, Ayahuasca is a mixture of multiple different plants prepared and boiled in a pot. Although the preparation and ingredients can vary, there are two main ingredients that all brews tend to contain.
The first ingredient, considered the “Spirit” of Ayahuasca, is called “caapi” vine and is a very important part of the mixture. The second ingredient, called “chacruna”, contains the psychoactive chemical DMT. DMT cannot be absorbed by the body orlay on its own and requires the help from an MAOI. Interestingly, caapi vine is an MAOI and together the two sacred plants grant an incredibly profound spiritual experience. The curious part of the mixture is how the shamans knew that mixing these two plants would create this intense experience. When asked about the topic, shamans say the plant spirits spoke to them and taught them to mix and how to prepare Ayahuasca.
Combining the Andean cleansing ceremonies with the Ayahuasca session creates for an incredibly positive spiritual journey. You’ll be in the presence of Master Shamans who have the culmination of hundreds of years of spiritual knowledge passed orally through the generations. There is really no better setting to have an Ayahuasca session than with authentic Peruvian Shamans.
